The world around you is an incomparable classroom and, for the development of practical wisdom, it is the only one available. As Joseph Dunne says “practical wisdom is a fruit which can only grow in the soil of a person’s experience…apart from this there is no other way of making it available”.
One can have had much experience, and have gathered little experience – one might live long but learn little! A C.V. shows a list of experiences – it does not demonstrate any experience. To gain learning from one’s experience one has to have a certain form of engagement with one’s lived experience.
